Eating Habits

The most important thing we do in order to regain or maintain what we have is to control what enters our bodies. We have all heard the old adage “You are what you eat”. That cannot be more true, if you are constantly putting garbage into your body how do you think you will feel?

One thing that is imperative for you to do at the start is to wean your body off of its cravings for high fructose syrup and other processed sugars. Sugar can be detrimental to us and can speed up the aging process by weakening your body in a number of ways. Below you will find a list of just a few.

Immune system suppression

Upsets the body’s mineral relationships

Can raise the body’s triglycerides

Reduces the body’s ability to defend itself against bacterial infection

Causes a loss of body tissue elasticity and function

Contributes to copper deficiency

Causes tooth decay

Interferes with calcium and magnesium absorption

Can weaken the eye sight

Can cause general premature aging

The body changes sugar into 2-5 times more fat than it does starch

May induce cell death

Besides weaning off of the sugars we eat, we need to wean ourselves from the sugar we intake in our drinks. Yes if you truly want to have that fabulous body then you will want to say bye bye to sodas, alcohol and other drinks that are just filled to the T with processed sugars.

There are a few things that you will want to make sure that you have in your new diet. The most important thing that you may need to change is how much water you drink a day. In general you should drink eight ounces of water eight times of day. But the main thing to remember is to listen to your body some days you will need more or less than others. There is plenty of reasons of why you should drink water but I think it would be too long to list here, so just keep in mind that it is vital in cleaning out you body’s systems and keeping them operational.

You will definitely want to be supplementing your diet with tons of antioxidants. You can it berries, drink teas, and different fruits will give you more than enough. Antioxidants fight against free radical damage to the body hence reducing aging effects. Some common antioxidants include:

Green Tea

Mangoes

Blueberries

Acai berries

If you are not putting your body through regular training, you may want to look into getting started immediately. Once past the age of 35 our bodies tend to lose about 1% of their muscle mass per year. Since it is muscle mass that tends to give us our shape we need to have a good workout regimen in place.

You will probably want to start out with bodyweight training if you haven’t worked out in awhile or you are overweight. The importance of starting immediately is because you want to retain as much muscle mass as possible and prevent atrophy.

Even more important than working out is your body’s flexibility. Nothing contributes more to optimal mobility than having flexible joints and muscles. You will want to make sure that you stretch on a regular basis so that can guard against the 3 most common injuries – back, knee and hip. These injuries generally happen because the body is too rigid and gets moved past its range of motion. Stretching on a daily basis will help optimize your range of motion and make it less likely for you to get hurt.
